A friend wanted me to build him a USD so I started it in the spring. Well, I just finished it today and will drop it of to him this evening on my way to the chili cookoff.
I wanted to paint it but time got in the way.
I put four 3/4" nipples (3 capped & 1 w/ ball valve) at the bottom for the intake and six 3/4 nipples with 90° elbows for the exhaust. Whats your thoughts on the intake/exhaust ratio? I figure that if it's too much exhaust he can cap it off.
Anyways, I added a few things to this one that my old one doesnt have. The money that I get out of this one will be used to make me a new one with some improvements.
One thing that I need to do is come up with a better way to remove the ash. Any ideas?

Nice build. How about using an ECB charcoal bowl, setting the grate on top of that?

That drum looks like it's still got the liner coat on the inside... He should really give a good burn to get rid of that... I think your OK on the intake/exhaust. I have found out that on the ones I've built they needed more exhaust than intake. I use 2 1" intakes and 4 1" exhausts on mine.
To make ash removal easier, just bolt a pan of some sort onto the bottom of the charcoal basket legs.

Sounds like a weenier! I have been thinking of several different mods to make on the next one and that sounds good to me!
