Isnt that steel? Looks like the steel lid that came with my Big Drum Smoker.

It feels real light and the metal is kinda ashy. The barrel had tomato paste in it.

I would think that if it contained food then it should be OK as far as Food Cooking is concerned. You can always chunk it and fab another one if things don't work out.
