My drum was a hydraulic oil barrel, in it's previous life. I did a really good burnout on it, and it's fine.

The only reason to burn out a drum is to aid in the removal of an Epoxy liner. If its' not lined scrub it out with some Dawn dish soap and hot water and build it.
Never met a cow I didn't like with a little salt and pepper.
