Inside of drum painted

Postby smoking gents » Sat Jun 07, 2014 1:18 pm

Found a food grade 55 gal drum, but the inside is painted. Will a good hot burn be all I need or will I still need to grind?

Are you sure it's paint, and not an epoxy coating? Those are a real PITA to clean out. If it is just paint, you can burn it out, or even use a weed burner. If it is one of those epoxy lined barrels, be prepared for a burnout, a weed burner, and a grinder or orbital sander, and lots of free time.

It has a epoxy liner because you bought a Food grade drum,( future note to self> never buy food grade drums) I guarantee by the time you burn grind sand you way to clean bare steel you won't make this mistake again because it has to go :banghead: Drill your intake holes 1" holes 2" center off the bottom. Get you 3-4 old shipping pallets bust ;em up load them in the drum go plum crazy with a bottle of charcoal lighter and toss in a match. Once it cools the real work will begin removing what is left of that nasty old liner:laughing7:

I found one, and called the fella about the condition of drum, didn't say I bought it. Did y'all really think I wouldn't inquire here first to see what the gurus had to say? This is why I love this site, it saves me work. I reckon I need to find one that is clean on inside.
