Just started smoking on my UDS

I just started smoking on my UDS and was wondering how many wood chunks you guys are putting in your fire basket? Any method to your maddness? Thanks guys.

I bury 4-5 Man Fist size chunks in the basket unless it is Mesquite then 1 split about 8" long standing up in the middle.
Never met a cow I didn't like with a little salt and pepper.

I just mix chuncks like BluDawg says , we like to mix pecan in with the lump

I use hickory or pecan depends what I am smoking at the time. Maybe I should say what kind of meat I am smoking at the time. Beef= hickory. chicken and pork = pecan, mix with hickory. CF :D

I'll put about a dozen but its a pretty big basket, hold 25lbs of charcoal. :flamer:

Thanks for the info guys. How about 90's at the bottom. Do they decrease air flow?

90's redtrict the Flow by 50% so a 1" hole is as efficient and a 1/2 opening
