I've heard there is a place in Liberty Hill called Winkleys? Also a friend said there was a barrel dealer on 1-35 near Buda out by Cabelas.

Good luck!

Just a piece of advice I would not get a food Grade drum. They have an epoxy liner that is very hard to remove. Get a unlined drum burn it out and build it. It will save you time and headaches.

hmm, well now im confused, there seems to be some debate about whether to get a food grade drum or not.

bludawg, im extremely hesitant to get a used NON food grade drum for food sanitary reasons, but i certainly dont want a food grade drum with an epoxy liner i cant get off...i do however recall a few places stating that the liner has already been removed..

maybe i should look into getting a brand new drum?

anyone else want to chime in??

If you get an unlined drum you can burn it hot enough to sanatize it the way you want. The liner in food grade drums can be removed but it is a pain in the arse. So you can save time by buyin a barrel that is not lined.

I have used non food grade barrels and have no problems either with food or prep of the barrels .

I found a new barrel dealer in houston and have been verry happy with the results . See if you can find a New barrel dealer and you won't have to worry about the barrel cause nothing has ever been in it to foul the metal , so it is clean . Just burn it out and set it up .

allright, i did buy a food grade drum...found a woman in leander selling them, she still has plenty if you looking. $20 each..i know they arent the cheapest, but i felt good knowing they were clean of anything toxic.
the drums had a removable plastic liner in them containing fruit juice (which was removed)...so the inside looks real good..

ok, so off i go to get the other parts !

Got here late, looks like you have your drum.

Me, I purchased two new ones for my drums. Total cost for me to build mine, and I'm a city boy so I did the drilling and basic assembly but I had someone else build me a fire basket, was about $125.00 with the new drums.

So for $250.00 I have two drums that I've competed on and cooked a ton of food on and I did not have to worry about what was in the things previously.

Look for Weber Kettles, 22 inch on Craigs list both the grates and the lid can be used. You will be amazed at how fuel efficient these cookers are and the product you can get off of them with practice.

post some pics!

Oh, a step bit comes in real handy as well.

Nutz ,bolts i.e @ the hardware store of your choice

Academy for the grills & Lowes /Home Depot for the expanded metal for the fire basket ( see Ecto1's video for instructions and you only heavy wire cutters to cut them ,he uses a cutter wheel )

Just trying to help .
