Looking for Help with a UDS

Postby Txbbqman_2 » Mon Jul 25, 2011 6:56 pm

Howdy gang,

If and when I sell the Lang, I am wanting to go with 1 or 2 UDS. I did a quick search and didnt see anything on how to build one.

Would anyone like to offer some help, or is anyone willing to build a couple for a guy that has NO time to do it himself?

Will also be needing instruction on how to use :banghead:

I have built several UDS smokers this summer check out my Facebook page to see a few of the builds. What part of Texas are you in? UDS are great smokers.

I understand the ball valve is to control air intake, but what do the pip nipples do if they are capped?

The pipe nipples are there to sub for a ball valve since they are so expensive. Lets say you want 1 1/2 holes open you just take one cap off and leave the ball valve half way open. I find when I have my ball valve open 1/2 way I hit 225 consistently all the way open is 250 every cap after that raises the temp about 25 to 30 degrees.

After you build your first one you will wonder why you waited so long. My stick burner served me well for ten years, but has set dormant for the last month since building my UDS. They use less fuel and are very easy to use. :texas:

What he said, plus you get to be the master of time and temperature! I have never had so much fun cranking out good grub in my life! Today I set up a brisket at 7:30AM and then just went about my business and didn't worry about it. Came back at 3PM and found it sitting at 210F and had no trouble throttling it back up to 250. Finished it at around 6:30, wrapped it up and let it rest until 8. When I unwrapped it was tender and juicey there were parts falling off when I handled it! (mostly bark points) Everything I have cooked on my UDS has been amazing. Baby Back Ribs, Beef Ribs, Lamb, Salmon, Beer Butt Chickens, Sausage and of course..Briskato!!! :D

My old stickburner's firebox rusted out and I was thinking about ways to rehab it. Now that I have a UDS I think it will soon be on Craig's List.
