Weber Kettle, Silver or Gold?

Postby HarvestMoon » Mon Sep 07, 2009 7:03 pm

I am considering getting a Weber Kettle.

The question is the Gold worth sixty dollars more than the Silver?

I think the Gold is worth the extra money. The inside ash removal parts are stainless instead of alum. And the ash catch pot is a lot cleaner than the open pan. You'll like this after the first windy day, the hot and cold ashes won't be blowing everywhere ( grass and wood decks do get burn spots  ). Also makes for easier clean-up. And the grill on the gold comes with the flip up cooking grate, which makes it easier to add charcoal if you need to.

Just for the ease of clean up, the additional $60 would be worth it!

I 've had my kettle a long time and it is a one touch silver. The gold wasn't even a twinkle in anyone's eye at the time but if I ever do need to replace mine I will step up to the gold.I think that the the air intake on the gold is more precise. before you add to the national debt take a look on Craig's list some times you can find them from $15.00 - $50.00 like new condition.

Thanks guys for your input. I'm not rushing to get it. Waiting for after BBQ season sells or Craig's list.

Like everyone else recommended, get the gold. The extra money you spend will be worth it in the long run. Check Craigslist often, I have picked up a Performer, WSM and Jumbo Joe off of Craigslist.

I'll echo everyone's sentiments here. I was gonna get the silver, but decided to step up to the gold and I'm glad I did. Like already mentioned, it really makes a difference when it's windy outside.

I was notified that my one-touch gold was shipped today.

Kenny, I do like Abita's Turbodog & Andygator. I can't wait to get back to their brew club.

Abita really brews some great stuff. I still haven't tried the Andygator, but I've heard it's really good. The Amber is what I drink most often, but I have yet to try one of their brews that I don't like

Enjoy that one touch gold. I bought mine to have a second grill when I needed more space, but after using it just a few times I found it so versatile that I do most of my outdoor cooking on it.

It's a shame that you were missing parts, but Weber had the best customer service in the inustry... At least they are not parts that will keep you from firing up the grill!
