By all means get a spare tank, and i get my refilled while they are sitting on a scale, i get what i pay for, every time. But once you swap tanks do not put getting the empty filled on the back burner. Or you will eventually leave yourself standing there looking...... well, looking like the engineer that you are.

Good luck with the grill you chose. I think it will be great.

Re: Newbie here looking to buy my first grill
Got the beauty last weekend (attached). Right on time to try it out for the Fourth. Didnt end up getting it in red since they didnt have any of those built up at the store so I stuck with the classic look. Thank you everyone for the guidance!
Was thinking to throw on some sausages to try to get the hang of cooking since its hard to ruin those. Are there any considerations besides giving it a good cleaning before firing it up for the first time?

Congratulations on the new grill. You can't go too wrong with any Weber product. That's a nice balcony sized grill. It will live at least twice your stated requirement. Look into a small smoke tube or just invest in a big roll of heavy duty aluminum foil to make some wood chip "burritos". You'll want a trigger ignited propane torch to get the wood chips burning. I've done some pretty decent smoked ribs, hams, chicken, and tritips this way, before stepping up to a large stick burning smoker. Get to grillin.
By the way, my opinion is that a great sausage is cooked slow with smoke and indirect so it doesn't burst open and lose all the juices. But, fast and hot will put a carmelized char on it and bring flavor, and if you are quick, you'll not dry it up.
