Old Smokey Got a Makeover

Postby Williep » Fri Mar 03, 2017 3:14 pm

The only time's I use the Old Smokey is at beach gathering's, NHRA Spring Nationals and thing's like that. I went to clean it up and it needed a little work done on it, needed a new grill, bottom grate, the handle on the lid was broke and the bottom damper was rusted out. This may seem like a lot of work or trouble for something like this but I enjoyed doing it. I bought a new grill (one that flip's open), bottom grate, replaced most of the screw's and nut's with stainless, made a handle for the lid and a damper for the bottom. I cut out a piece of expanded metal to lay on top of the grill and that's when one thing led to another and another and another. As you can see by the pic's, I'm not using the new grill after all.

Let me know if you make it down and you can stop by for a cold one and there may be something on the Old Smokey on Friday, they feed us on Saturday and Sunday so there may or may not be anything on the grill but there will be something to drink every day. I'm normally parked about 300 ft. straight out from the ticket booth, TEC parking.

Cut the leg's off so it wouldn't fall over in the back of the truck and built a stand for it.

WillieP- that's pretty slick. Back when I had an Old Smokey I do seem to remember it being a little on the tippy side.
