Weber Genesis Silver Restoration

Postby SteamValve88 » Mon Oct 20, 2014 4:00 pm

Here is my 2000/2001 era Weber Genesis Silver B model grill. One day I was out for a walk and found it sitting on the curb for free. It looked kind of dirty but I thought it would work nice with a few new parts. So I got the truck and picked it up.
First step: Disassembly. Then scraping out grease with a putty knife and powerwashing. I used some steel wool to clean the enamelware parts. I replaced the cooking grate with a cast iron grate "borrowed" from my brother's grill. Welded a few spots on the frame for stablilty then painted. Used high temp black paint on the main box after a good sanding. Painted the knobs white. Cleaned out every little hole on the burners(which now work just fine). Replaced the crossover burner($5). Added rotisserie mount. I decided to replace the plastic table and handle with wood using a spare fence board and piece of 1x1. Added lava rocks and wood chip smoke box and now it's good to go. It cooks very well. I am really pleased with the result. The most expensive part was filling the propane tank.

That looks great!
Question, what do the lava rocks do for you?

The lava rocks are there to radiate the heat up evenly from the burners and vaporize the meat drippings, which helps to keep the burners from getting clogged. This grill originally came with those V shaped flavorizer bars for the same purpose, but they had completely rusted away. So instead of replacing them, I just added the rocks which I already had on hand.

One man's trash, another man's treasure. Mebbe you oughta expand that hobby into a business...
BE WELL, BUT NOT DONE
Hank: "Do you know how to jumpstart a man's heart with a downed power line?"
Bobby: "No."
Hank: "Well, there's really no wrong way to do it."
