Disc Wok Score

Postby jtilk » Mon Dec 24, 2012 11:09 pm

A buddy of mine called me the other day and was apparently cleaning up his yard/ garage. He has this baby in his backyard just taking up space and rarely used, told me if I wanted it I could have it. As you can see it looked like a birdbath in his yard just holding water, so the discs had some pitting from rust. Had a client of mine give it a good blast job and I added some high heat paint and seasoned it. Here's the transformation...

I hope you DID NOT paint the cooking area.
I think you will also have heat issues with it.
Let us know when you give it a go. Take pics.

I appreciate the concern JH but I have a lil sense about me... haha No painting the inside of the disc, just the bottom side of the first and the pole/ base. After the blast the inside of the top got a good seasoning with peanut oil, the bottom just looks to have some wet spots because the top has a hairline crack in it which caused a bit of the oil to leak down.

When you say heat issues, what are you expecting me to encounter?

Josh, it was hard to tell from the picture, if was painted or seasoned. Sorry.
It just seems like cooking with sides open, you will have a problem with uniform heat to the cooking surface.
Let us know how she cooks. Interesting design, I must say.

I have one like that but the bottom disc is on a threaded rod and can be ajusted up and down with the amount of fire you need

Yes, this one is the same way, although I think the threads are froze up from sitting out in the weather... it'll take a lil work to loosen them.

Gunny- No problem. I thought the same thing when I posted it, thought the entire thing looked painted. I'm not sure how well it does with fajitas and what not, but when my buddy owned it we did breakfast tacos and it worked fairly well, but I'll keep you guys posted.
