Tri tip seasoning

Postby bogiedr » Thu Jul 16, 2020 9:46 pm

Greetings! Tough couple of weeks, chemo and radiation treatment for liver was not fun! Slept 4 1/2 days full of narcotics and in a ton of pain. See Doc next Tuesday, will update you all! Now for the serious issues …

smoking a tri tip on my Daniel Boone this weekend. I can use your recommendations for rub. I am thinking of keeping it simple as it is my first tri tip. My first inclination is a simple Montreal Steak or a Chicago Steak blend. Any suggestions? Also, what time / temp have you used?

As always thank you all for your prayers and encouragement, all I can do is keep fighting the beast!!!

Looking forward to your suggestions!! :taz:

Man, hope you are feeling better. Will keep praying for ya. I used the Montreal Steak Seasoning for my tri tip. Turned out great. I am sure the Sucklebusters SPG will be great as well. I smoke most everything around 275, except for turkey breast which I smoke around 265. Good luck. It will be awesome!

Good luck on your fight.
Simple is definitely a good way on a tri tip, the meat has plenty of flavor.
I’m a fan of a reverse sear. 225-250* indirect until meat hits 125*. Pull it and stoke the fire, hot as it can get. Sear the ever loving crap out of it, the crispy charred bits are awesome. Pull when IT hits 134*, foil, rest for about 10 minutes and slice thin.

Praying for you!

Keep it simple on seasoning the first go round then experiment next time based on what you learn.

Thank you all! I appreciate all of you.
I will go with my gut, validated by a few of you, Montreal steak it is! 250 to 120 sounds perfect. Report by Sunday morning. Great weekend everyone, enjoy you families and your grilling!

Well, no posting, typical summer afternoon in Tampa ... rain as you are getting ready to start your outdoor pellet grill which has no protection from the weather, only it's cover ... in other words, pizza night!! Will try again next weekend! Have a great week everyone.
