Charcoal pellets
I have been wanting to try the charcoal/hickory pellets for some time now. What is the feeling on them. I am looking at the Lumberjack brand.

Re: Charcoal pellets
I am not a pellet cooker but I know they manufacture the Cabela brand as well. Cannot go wrong with hickory flavor-that I do know.
How bout some more beans Mr.Taggert? I'd say you've had enough!

Re: Charcoal pellets
My experience is that Lumberjack pellets are not quite as tight as Traegar or B+B.
More chunks broken pieces and dust.
Smoke seems the same and I just used some of it on ribs a few weeks ago, came out good.

I"ve only used B&B from Academy Sports and have never been disappointed. Good Luck to you

Re: Charcoal pellets
I have burned lumberjack pellets for more than a couple years, with no problems or complaints, the mesquite, hickory, cherry, apple and the maple cherry competition blends I buy the blend not the 100%. The blend is using red oak as the base and the flavor wood comes is at about 1/3 of the make up. Last purchase was in the ton category.
as far as charcoal pellets I have no knowledge or experience with them.

Re: Charcoal pellets
All I use is Lumberjack and have very good luck with them. I use 100% flavors only and mix my own when needed. I tried the charcoal blend and didn't get the flavor profile I expected. The smell of the smoke was pleasant and hoped for good flavor, but didn't happen. What I did get was very stable temps from them.

Re: Charcoal pellets
I have been using Pit Boss charcoal pellets for about a year. I get them from Walmart. I mix them 50/50 with Pit Boss hickory pellets. I like the flavor with them mixed.

Re: Charcoal pellets
I like to do steaks with the charhickory pellets from lumberjack, like all the flavors of theirs I have tried, makes to much ash on low/slow cooks imo but I do mix with hickory for low/slow about 30% char/70 % hickory and its not to bad, no way I m burning pellets flavored with oil for anything I plan on eating
