I went out to check my ribs and the temp was at 95 degrees and flashing. I turned the temp up to 225 and I could tell the auger was turning feeding the pellets so I watched and waited for the temp to rise. That was 10 minutes ago. It’s been smoking like crazy ever since then. The smoke is so thick around the pit. It’s never done this before.
Is that normal?

Normal no...
Causes you may have experienced the dreaded "flame out". Usually caused by improper maintenance (crud in the firebox). If you have recently changed the "P" setting you might reconsider that.
If it catches again and starts burning normally let it go but keep an eye on it.
