Auger problem

Postby FredR » Wed Sep 12, 2018 10:23 am

Hi, thanks in advance for your help.

I purchased a used Traeger Jr. and experience intermittent problems with the Auger not turning off when it should.

Example 1: In the "smoke only" mode, the auger just keeps feeding, creating an inferno in the pit... Tried several P settings, no change. But sometimes it does work. Others times, no.

Example 2: With unit set to 180 degrees, it can hold the temp reasonably well for some time, and then suddenly, the auger just keeps feeding, creating an inferno in the pit.

In each instance, I have to shut down to control the temperature. I will replace the thermostat but I'm pretty sure that won't resolve the problem since the non-shut-off auger problem also persists in "smoke only" which, as I understand, is a timer, rather than temperature controlled.

Any help as to which part I need to replace would be much appreciated.

Best Regards, Fred

Welcome Fred to the forum.

Do you have the manual?

"P" settings truly are timer settings and really only are used in the "Smoke" setting.

Sounds to me like you need a new controller since it misbehaves in both smoke and temperature settings.

I had one do this and that made it difficult to live with but a new controller fixed the issue. Fortunately it was still under warranty.

One more thing you should know while most of the controllers work the same there IS a difference....the plug connector size.
The Traeger takes a larger plug size (that connects to auger, fan and igniter) than say a Pit Boss so make sure the one you order will fit Traeger.
