I'll stick with my Weber kettle

Postby bondobill » Sun Jun 25, 2017 1:59 pm

Wifey was out with her sis last night.
I needed a beef fix but didn't feel like fireing up the charcoal for one ribeye.
Kids got me a patio heater for F Day and I figured it was a good time to put the heater together while steak was cooking. Heater instructions said 30 minutes assembly time

Had the RecTec on the deck so I went with ezy.
Did a reverse sear. Set smoker at 200 on extreme smoke. Also decided it was time to use the grill grates I've had for over a year and never used them.
Set the steak on the smoker grille along with the grille grates to warm them up.
Left the steak in pellet till it hit a IT of 105. Pulled it and wrapped in foil and set it on the table. Cranked grille up to 500. While grille was heating up the steak IT hit 111.
Once grille got to temp I unwrapped the steak and set it on the Grille Grates.
Flipped it a couple times while searing. Removed steak when IT hit 125.

Overall the steak was good...not great. I prefer more charring on the ouside of steak which my kettle does wonderfully. Pellet cooker not so much.
IMHO grille marks maybe pretty but don't add nutin to the flavor.
Will I do steaks on the pellet again :?: .....probably not.

I'd eat it and be happy but I can definitely see your point.

Thanks for the kind words folks :D

I like the fat on my ribeyes nicely charred and crispy . Probably not attainable on my pellet. :dont:
One thing nice was I got the patio heater together while steak was cooking :D well kinda anyways..had to finish it up the next day. I lost a couple of bolts on the deck during assembly. Had to wait for my wife to find them when see got home . :laughing7:

Looks like you cooked it just right but I agree with you…THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A WEBER KETTLE!

When I want a steak it will be done over Kingsford Charcoal I have a Raptor Grilling table top charcoal grill that replaced a Cuisinart gas grill table top. It really works as advertised, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YW3DIF0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
