Do you season these or just burn in the paint and burn off the manufacturing oil and stuff

Pellet Pit 101:

Pellet pits do require maintenance but it is easy enough.
Every few cooks depending on the length of the cook you need to break out the shop vac and clean out the bottom ash collection ESPECIALLY the firebox. Also check the firebox for "clinkers".
Make sure all embers are out the Pit Boss cool down cycle helps with this. I managed to burn up a shop vac cleaning out a Traeger 24 hours after a cook.
Failure to keep the pit clean causes "Flame Outs" (the fire goes out) usually at 2:AM.
If you experience a flame out the pit has no doubt pumped a bucket of fresh pellets into the firebox area DO NOT restart without checking.
Also I foil line the grease drain if it gets nasty you can experience grease fires.
Check for pellet dust accumulation in the feed hopper and vacuum out any accumulation. I have had little trouble with this but some brands are more prone to pellet feed problems or burn backs if dust builds up.
The most common failure is the "hot rod" ignition device. It usually manifests by popping the GFCI breaker on the outlet. You can unplug the hot rod and manually start the fire to get by until getting new part.

Enjoy and sleep tight.

More good info - - - that's Gents :salut:

I gotta get my Grandson to come get me in his PU and go to Academy - - - I'm getting anxious now so I picked up a fat rack of SL Ribs and a small pork butt for the maiden smoke :chef:

Maintenance is only time and I've got plenty of that

what brand of pellets is every one using?
I have been using the cookshack or fast eddie pellets with no problems of any kind... BBqers delight have also been good just cost a little more due to shipping the cookshack, I have not had good luck burning the branch creek brand, the heat is not consistent, I have burned the cooking pellets.com however shipping is extreme for them and runs the price up to high for me. The traeger brand had the alder as filler and I wasn't happy with them, So what is everyone else using?

I use CookinPellets. Good quality. BBQ'rs Delight is good as well. B&B is available at Academy Sports for $24 for 40 lbs. I haven't tried it, but I am going to soon.

Do you have to run pellets in box while seasoning for the first time in the traeger for 45 mins?
