For anyone who'd like to be able to leave meat smoking overnight without setting an alarm to feed the pellet hopper, I devised this idea. Just tear the flaps off one end of a twelve pack soda box and wiggle it down into the pellets above the auger. Then just put some pellets into the box. I filled mine about 2/3 of the way and it worked like a charm.

Re: Smoking while you sleep
Got some questions on them dudes???
1. Do you run pellets the whole time?? I use charcoal on my offset but only have wood chunks providing smoke for 1-2 hours, depending on meat type (eg. Ribs vs brisket)
2. How even is the heat from one side to the other on the Traegers???
3. Are these better for low and slow or hotter....or just good for whatever???
Thanks.....BTW.....nice idea...I would finally get some use out of all the flippin' diet coke the wife drinks

Pellet pits ONLY burn pellets.

There is some variance side to center to side but you learn to work with it. The easy way to gauge it is the biscuit test, get a tube of cheap biscuits and place them at even intervals around the grate crank up the pit and you will get a visual of where the hot spots are.

They (Traegers) work pretty good from 180° to 300° just set and let it do the work.

Re: Smoking while you sleep
basically everything Papa tom said,
I run a different pellet muncher and it contains hot spots as well,
but you learn and improvise to suit the needs of the cook.
My main(Fec-100)unit the back left corner is the hot spot, my traeger
has its favorite places that are warmer than others as well.
How do you tell who cooks on pellets?
those are the guys who are relaxed and had a good nights sleep while the brisket cooked!!
