Kick Ash basket

Postby bogiedr » Tue Jun 06, 2017 8:08 pm

Hello folks! Forgive me if I have been too lazy to search the forums. Has ceramic aficionado tried the kick ash basket? I know John Setzler has, anyone here can share their experiences?
Thanks!

Haven't tried it but folks who have like it a lot.

Just saw they make one for my PitBoss 24, and would love to try one to see if the lump would burn better when the fire reaches the sides of the bowl.
Seems like I have to tinker with the vents when the fire expands away from the center..could be ash is starting to restrict the intake air flow.

Pretty pricey, $99 for SS to fit my Primo. I think I will wait for a sale :)

Cooking a bunch of beef sausage right now, should be done in two hours..so far so good, fire was easy to start and temps are running along just fine..
Here it is precook..

Finally, here's the Kick Ash Basket result pics, before shaking and after, and then my next fire set to go in a few hours..
Going to lite this one the way KAB instructs, over on one side above the air intake opening so it can burn across rather than from the middle out (which is not how I lit the fire in the pics).
It works as exactly advertised, plenty of airflow to the fire, very easy to control temps and when cool it took two good shakes and the ash was gone..
Last pic is how I'm laying out the oak bits...none over the fire start point and set to catch as the fire progresses, plus I like to sprinkle oak chips all about.

Those sausages DO look great !!
I can see some good sausage and peppers and good marinara on some fresh Italian rolls !!
Chuck in some good grilled taters and sauteed Vidalias and I'm all set !!

Amazon was out of the one for my PitBoss 24", so I ordered direct from the manufacturer.
That sausage IS fantastic but mostly because it came from Southside market in Elgin, Tx.
FWIW, I believe they ship, you gotta pay freight but if you must have the best beef sausage on Earth, well....
