I do enjoy the heck out of my Weber Genesis propane, and my basic Weber Kettle.
And now joining the fleet on Christmas day: a red, Classic Kamado Joe.
I was, and am, a bit flabbergasted by this gift. It was too extravagant in the first place! But, I can't ask my wife to take it back, now can I?
Therefore, I am going to be getting into this thing to justify the exorbitance of it all. Previously, I have not spent any time reading in this forum section, so I thought I should stick this "intro" post in here to announce my news.
Thanks in advance for all the knowledge I know I will be gaining here. If I learn anything on my own, I will share it back.

Congrats , that's a sweet gift !!
Biggest mistake to make is to use too much of a fire source of you plan on running smoking temps ie 225-275...
And honestly I would use a lump over briquettes but that's totally your call.
Also, remember it's easier to slowly raise the temp than to lower the temp, These egg style Kamados sure hold the heat very well..

Thanks for all the comments and input. This thing is exciting to have sitting outside.
I got it running today with the first load of lump charcoal (Kamado Joe brand from the Ace hardware that sold the unit to my wife). I watched a lot of videos on these cookers over the last couple of days, and with all that accumulated digital-sourced knowledge, it was easy to get it started. I used a couple of starter blocks and it was off and running.
I was cautious to begin trimming the air flow as it got to about 150 deg F. Before long I had it stable at about 250-265. A simple rack of St. Louis pork ribs picked up at the last minute from Kroger, is out there now. I am doing this first run in a very simple manner, no complicated producer - just slow smoking/cooking.
I am beyond impressed at the ceramic egg cooker holding this temp so stable, and now for two hours. It was even raining on it for a little while. With - of course as you ceramic folks would call know - no extra fuel coal added. WOW. I sure can't do this on my beloved Weber kettle.
