The only problem I have with ceramic cookers are gaskets. Which got me to ponder why they fail. I identified several causes, to wit:
* Age of the gasket
* What material the gasket is made from.
* Designed obsolescence (profit center).
And then it dawned on me that:
* Grease!
Grease is the main culprit. Taking meat off the smoker invariably causes a drip or two or more of grease to land on the gasket. Over time, the grease builds up and the gaskets fail (stick together, melt, leak).
Solution: A grease prophylactic. Some one needs to market a product, that is placed on the bottom's gasket after raising the clam shell. Remove the smoked product, then remove the grease shield, and proceed as normal.
Provide me with a prototype sample product and the copyright is yours!

What if you were to eliminate the bottom gasket and use a thick top one.

Rutland gasket on the dome would work. But I have only seen it put on the base.
