24" x 48" horizontal smoker question?
I have a question about racks in a 24" diameter smoker. Question??? How much clearance is optimal between the lower cooking racks and the upper cooking racks? I have a layout designed for a smoker build and have about 5 1/2" clearance between the racks. Is this enough clearance? If I move the upper rack up any more I am afraid I will be too close to the top of my pit. Thanks for advise in advance.

Are the racks removable?
Only problem I can think of would be beer can chicken or cooking a whole turkey, and pork butts?

Re: 24" x 48" horizontal smoker question?
I have two racks on my 24" dia pit. The racks are split evenly between the door opening as you look straight on. Mine are removable and I recently stored the upper one since I don't use it much. If you're designing a pit yourself I highly recommend you make the upper rack into two separate racks so you can have "half-an-upper" if needed. I'm thinking of modifying mine like that. Good Luck.....
