Re: Masterbuilt Gravity Feed Smoker
Just to expand a little, here's the drip catchment set up.
One large tray that loads from the rear and covers the entire area under the cook grates.
Plus a small "pot" that loads from the front.
The small one is a bit fussy getting back in it's rack.
It's plain to see my aim with the mop brush needs improvement.

Re: Masterbuilt Gravity Feed Smoker
just a thought for ya....
I line my drip pans that could have cooked debris on them, with foil. It is super easy clean up; And where the catch pot is one could look around and find a glass or pyrex replacement, as glass so far has never been eaten through by the seasonings, Just my $.02

Re: Masterbuilt Gravity Feed Smoker
I have a massive kitchen sink and the entire drip tray fits nicely inside so all I have to do is run four inches of hot water and add some dawn, let it soak for an hour, scrub it with a brush a few times and it's good as new.
In fact I place all the cook grates in the sink and then add the hot water and dawn before placing the drip tray.
One of my best investments was to buy a large deep sink to replace the stupid divided sink my house came with.

Outstanding, I hope you like yours as much as I like mine!
Filling the hopper, setting the temp and retreating to my recliner/rocker is my idea of bbq heaven.

spacetrucker wrote:good reports so far, but in earlier post you eluded to using some wood mixed with the charcoal.... have you tried that yet?
and lastly what brand and type of charcoal are you feed it?
TIA
Today I'm using Royal Oak that I bought last year when it was on sale. Hickory chunks are getting layered in the charcoal hopper and some placed in the ash catcher. Tomorrow I've got a brisket to cook, and I might use one of my Amazen tube smokers for more smoke for a period of time

Re: Masterbuilt Gravity Feed Smoker
I doubt a smoker tube is needed, mine smoked the heck out of the two rib cooks I've done.
Place a piece or two near the grate level and the same in the ash catch bin.
The ones near the grate will start to smoke almost right away and the ones in the catch will smoke as soon as some burning coal bits fall into the bin.
Once the fire gets going the flaming charcoal pieces are more than enough to light and burn the wood you place there so every hour or so add another chunk of wood, depending of course how large your wood chunks are.
I used some large pieces of wood, almost too large to fit in the bin and they would smoke a long time.

Re: Masterbuilt Gravity Feed Smoker
I got mine at Walmart. It was in stock. Home Depot sells them and Academy may have started, not sure on that one. Make sure that the 560 is the one you want. I just bought the 1050 grill and it's what I should have waited on.
