I thought, WTH is Sanger and low and behold it was only 25 miles from my Daughter & SNL. It looked heavy constructed and I got a hold of the guy and had him call me. Apparently his neighbor was a welder and got laid off and had to move to another location. He needed some money so this guy bought this pit from him with intentions to use it but he said " I'm just not a cook". he decided he just wanted to get it out of his yard. $150. My SNL went and picked it up today, they had to load it with a tractor. He says it's at least 3/8's plate and it might not make it to Lufkin. I panicked and said " is something wrong with it?" He said yes, it may stay at my house. Anyway, it'll be here Saturday and I'll post more pictures. The Grandson is going to get it sandblasted and painted with High Heat paint. Life is good

Darn't. Right out from under my nose. I live in Sanger. Well good luck to the young man. :texas:

Just a quick update. The Grandson got the pit and is thrilled; I haven't been able to go inspect it yet . he said it's 1/4" metal and heavy. Firebox is square and 14x14x14; the cooking chamber is 20" pipe and 36" long. I'll get down there one day this week and get some pictures

He's cleaning on it: the weather is hindering him and I still haven't made it down there.. Plus. I can't go this weekend either :banghead: He has the sanding stuff plus a wire brush to go on his hand grinder but I told him not to sand it until he had a day he could paint immediately after sanding

I picked up a smoker that looks just like the one your grandson got. With the wrap around table. Picked it up off of craigslist. Does the temp gauge say longhandle BBQ and smokers on it?

Mine says longhandle. Tried to look it up but didn't need find anything. After I bought mine it needed some work, hinges needed to be replaced and there was a lid on top of the firebox that I had welded shut. Lots of rust removal and paint. Haven't cooked on it yet, been waiting on the weather and my schedule to align. Look forward to seeing more pics of the pit.

Grandson finally got a day off plus decent weather. He sanded it with a hand sander and painted with Rust Oleum High Heat Spray; did it all himself. He also cleaned the inside of the pit and the firebox with a wire brush attached to a hand grinder. Per someone's advice on this thread, he also cut a new piece of expanded metal. I told him to leave it sitting in the sun and then set it back under his boat covering tonight. Tomorrow I told him to lightly spray inside the pit and build a small fire and get'er up to 3-350 to season . He's tickled and I'm proud of him and for him.
