New user here... offset v pellet; Yoder v Lang

Hey guys... I’m wanting to invest in a nice smoker. I really have been spoiled by my Smokin’ Tex electric but I want something that will last and look good on the patio. I really like the Yoder Wichita loaded but here that Lang’s are good as well. I want to be able to cook as low as 200 or so if I choose. Any thoughts?

Gonna go with my usual advice and recommend the Rec-Tec I use. Great grill and great company.

My personal bias aside, it really depends upon how you want to cook. Pellet cookers are pretty much "set it and forget it". I love the ease and convenience. More skill and work involved with an offset smoker. Wood's also usually cheaper than pellets, but you've got to be willing to spend more time tending the fire. Stick burners also add more smoke flavor... So folks say anyway. I can set my Rec Tec at 180 or 200 and SLOW smoke with what I think are pretty good results.

One other thing to consider is that pellet smokers need an electric outlet (or generator). They take little juice to run, but don't have the advantage of being completely untethered like a stick burner.

Welcome to the forum. And FWIW, a Yoder was the runner up in my long investigation. Good grills.

EDIT... Guess I misread the initial question (since you said offset vs pellet) and assumed you were looking at a Yoder pellet grill, not a Yoder stick burner. Looks like either brand would be a good choice.

If you go with the Lang, get the bigger one. I have the 36 and wish I had one that was bigger. I know Shirley Fabrications will come up. They make some awesome pits as well. In TX we "go big or go home"!
