Brother finally stepped up from his traeger
He bought a pitmaker vault. Delivery day is tomorrow and sadly I won’t get his 5 am calls anymore on smoking meat. Anybody know much about them? Looks like a decent smoker and looks pretty. He’s happy for sure.

He sent me this a 5” pork chop he did and pulled off about 5 minutes ago. Looks pretty good looking. I’d eat it.
If I could figure out how to rotate it since on my phone it appears the right direction but not here.

I believe this came form his vault. No electricity required:)
I have a R&O Fatgirl that is very similar to the pitmaker vault. Very fuel efficient. I’ve run 14 hours with fuel to spare on one load of lump and wood chunks.
Nice looking Q!

He had a hard time getting his pitmaker up to temp. Outside temp was mid 50’s to start. Last I heard it was 225 or so. They enjoyed it.

I use a weed burner to get the cabinet warm. If not it can take 2 hours to get to temp. I also follow Pittmakers coal configuration on mine. Found a PDF on their website that makes an L shape and then add wood chunks ever so often.

Re: Brother finally stepped up from his traeger
I just talked to him again. He said that he did preheat the meat area of the smoker then lit the coals with the torch. I guess more fuel to the firebox then to heat it up faster. How does one preheat the wood prior to adding it to the firebox?

Re: Brother finally stepped up from his traeger
One more thing is I leave all vents WIDE OPEN until within 75 degrees or so of my desired temp then start trimming down.
To warm chunks I stack them up in the front right corner of the firebox. (Learned that from TXSmokemaster) Since I use an L shape they don’t come in contact with the coals until I move them over.
It took quite a bit of trial and error along with tips from the previous owner, google searches and YouTube videos to find what worked best for me.
