Hey guys, I have a friend that lives in Fort Worth and wants to purchase a well made thick offset smoker. He has a $1,200 budget. I know several of y'all live up in that area, would you have any suggestions of pits for him? He just wants it for his backyard. I would say at least a 36" firebox, maybe a little bigger as everyone always says on the forum. Thanks in advance for your help.

He won't get a 1/4" steel offset in that price range unless he is able to find one on CL. There are a lot of them listed.

If he could up his budget a little (trust me I know this is not always possible) Johnson Custom Pits in Ennis makes a nice RF backyard starting at $1895.

Most custom builder backyard models I've seen are in the $2000 + range.

I agree finding a quality built back yard offset in the 1200.00 is looking for a used one. There is a lot more in the process of quality than steel thickness. The cooker can be a 1/2" thick and not work properly without modifications.

Ok, thanks for the info. I will pass it along. I meant to say a 36" cook area, not firebox. Sorry. Thanks again.

Have seen Big Hat's product at the FW Fat Stock Show. A quality cooker at a good price.

1200$ for offset smoker is sufficient. I am guessing you are using offset smoker for the first time, so why waste money on expensive ones first we need to learn how to cook meat on the smoker.
In this Price segment, I would recommend you to go for: Oklahoma Joe's Longhorn one of the best reverse flow offset smoker in the market at present.
I hope you my inputs are valuable.
