looking to buy

Postby drofsnol_27 » Tue Nov 05, 2013 10:05 am

I am new to smoking and in the market for a good beginner smoker. I've been interested in the Old Country smokers from Academy. The Pecos model is $400 which is about what I'm wanting to spend. Does anybody have experience with these pits? Know anybody lookin to sell?

I have this smoker and love it. It was a nice upgrade from my original Chargriller Outlaw. I've been very pleased with it. Nice heavy weight with a large cooking surface. Cooks well and is very durable.

Only thing I've considered changing is the wheels. They are flat spotted to keep it from rolling but this makes it a pain in the butt to move around.

I use it for smoking only. Purchased a Weber Kettle for grilling.

Good luck with your purchase & happy smoking!

I have read lots of good reviews about these pits. Its is good to hear it from others as well. I am also considering the Ranch Hand model, but it is smaller and the Pecos is made of thicker metal.

Be sure you know what all is supposed to be included when you go to buy. Then make sure yours has all that is advertised. Parts tend to get removed from the units on the floor to make complete sets from time to time.
