What have you found to be the best way for doing it? Spray,Brush or rag? How hot and how long?

Thanks

I've done a few. I've used peanut oil on paper towel to coat the inside, then built a good hot fire for a few hours. Just got a pit last weekend and used a can of pam that I sprayed the whole inside with then hit it for several minutes with a weed burner. Both seemed to work fine.....the peanut oil and paper towel was definately more messy.

i use store brand Pam, it's just too easy. do it thick and burn it out, then light every time i use it for the first several cooks.

then do my fire box when i think about it,,, but it's pretty far gone now.

Throw on some slat pork or beef suet to season it and kill two birds with one stone.

I bought a spray bottle from Lowes and added peanut oil. Heated the pit up and sprayed the whole thing down. You could also use a NEW pesticide sprayer after you clean it up,so your hand doesn’t fall off if you have a big pit. (Lesson learned)

You can melt lard on the fire box then roll with a paint roller. Works great.

I found using a spray bottle and vegetable oil work great for me. Then just have a really smokey fire and let it work its magic.
