Klose vs. JJ Pit

Postby Smokin Stang » Sun Dec 26, 2010 9:13 pm

If you were going to buy a backyard smoker (say for example 24x48 with a square firebox) which one would you choose Klose or JJ? Factors I am looking at would be quality of welds, amount of smoke leakage around openings, ability to regulate heat in main chamber etc.. I have not seen either one of these pits up close but I am sure they are both quality.

Thanks

I can't brag enough about the quality of my Gator Pit. Extremely professional looking welds, 100% customizable, zero leaks and cooks like a champ. At least consider them while looking. You will be glad you did.

20" x 40" Party Gator Pit
Custom Mobile Stick Burner
Summerset TRL 32" Built-In Grill
Weber Q2200
48" Custom Firepit
Bertello Pizza Oven

I can't always please everybody. I'm not bacon.

That is some solid advice; give Ritch at Gator a call he will work with you.
Klose and Gator both build an excellent pit; I have no experience with JJ.
I was in the market for a rather large custom smoker in 2005 ($17K to $20K range) and Ritch was the only builder out of 6 major pit manufactures that had the courtesy to return my calls and emails.

I pull a custom gator, and wouldn't have anything else, give Ritch a call and tell him you know me, let him quote you a pit of your design..

All I can add is that both these outfits have a following. I've haven't seen a Gator close up and personal but have seen a couple of Klose pits. Whilst I haven't had the opportunity to talk to the gator folks, I did get a call back from Dave Klose, on a Sunday afternoon. Talked with him for an hour or so. Easy to talk to, no hard sell at all.

Got a JJ here and love it and customer service was great...just like Gator and Klose.
They're all good pits/smokers.

man you sure know how to ask a question. haha
i figure you'll get a 40 40 20 on who says which one is better.
40 for klose
40 for gator
and twenty for JJ
and that would be dictated just by number of folks who know the builders. i think have their strengths. thing that makes most choose one over the other is budget. albeit it isn't the only reason. i know klose and Gator are in Houston, where is JJ?
i would pay each a visit if it were me. especially for the amount of dead presidents involved.
