Looking at new smoker

Postby ChileFarmer » Sat Apr 07, 2007 2:15 pm

Been needing a new smoker pit. Have one that looks good on the internet, Haven't seen it for real yet. It is the NEW BRAUNFELS SMOKER SUPER LONGHORN DELUXE, sells for about $600.00 plus tax. I may go Monday to have a look.
Anybody know anything about this product? Good, Bad or Ugly.
Can be seen here.

Guess it depends on your intended use and how many other toys you have :D

I saw a New Braunfels smoker at Home Depot. Definitely not the one you have the link too, only $200 or so. That one had real thin sheet metal and the wheels were plastic, kind of rickety IMHO. But there are folks that love em.

With a 1,000 sq inches of cook surface, it would have way more capacity than an a ceramic. My experience (limited for sure) with offsets is that they use a lot fuel and require a lot of attention like some women. :D

I can't help ya on the NB smoker, but...

If you are open to other smokers, take a look at the smokers that Ratmo builds. While I don't own one yet, I have heard alot of good things about them.

Here is a thread from awhile back talking about them with pics.

this form is old but had to put my 2 cents in. From the research I did before I got my smoker, Tejas smokers had my attention, Pitts and spitts of course but they are priced real high, and the guys I talked to on the phone about the pitts were not to helpful, and kinda cocky. SO, I turned away from them. They guy at Tejas smokers talked to me for a very long time. Very helpful. The Tejas smokers look really nicely put together.

Ya'll, I think I did post somewhere that I got a new smoker.
Anyway I did get the Oklahoma Joe offset smoker, Real heavy built (400#) I have been using it and i do like it (no choice) now that I have it. I did close up a couple air leaks in the fire box door. (better control) CF
