i will refer to what we call a roaster to a pit so you southern boys know what i'm talking about.
the pit has been washed out & i lit a wood fire in it last night temp went to about 700 let it burn all night so the diesel should be gone

picture a round tank  now the lid is cut from one side in a 1/4 pie shape on the oposite side is a boom welded in the cunter with an arm with 2 pullys & a cable with a 68lb weight attached going over the pit to the handle. just dont like how high the boom is

Yep, that looks like a hog roaster fer sure! Only thing I see that I would change is the tires. I would want that pit riding on more tire!

Good lookin' build. :D I'm like James, think I would want more trailer and tires under it. :D

Law you mentioned that your not totally happy with the Counterbalance. I think with no major problem you can change that to a Large Square tubing 6"-8" and make it the same width as your door, and fill it with something until you get the right balance. It will not be near as cumbersome as the way you have it now. You will need to mount it with two smaller square tubing pcs so that you dont have all that weight on a single brace. Now you can make your angle so that the door doesnt open as far or further, if needed. Now with it being as high a door as you have it, the chain pull down would probably still be necessary. IMO you will like it much better and have nothing down low for you to mess a shin up with.

Hmmmm, looks a little like mine, but somewhat bigger. As for cooking time, figure about 10 minutes a lb at 300*
Good luck with hog! Biggun for a starter. I'm cooking two 100 pounders tomorrow night for a party Sunday. Also, you can figure about 1.5 lbs raw/dressed weight per person. Should have plenty.
Welcome to the forum and Take and post pics of this cook. Good Luck!
