1 more to add to the board.

Postby TX OUTLAW » Sat May 16, 2009 2:42 am

Well here it is.the beginning of a long relationship with my smoker :chef:i have been wanting to do this for some time now.i have been trying to get this piece of pipe for a while.just never could get my uncle to let it go.finally, after some much persuading and a couple of beers''and some car parts''it was finial. :mrgreen:now, for how its going to be built.i wanted some thing different then the side firebox smoker or texas smoker.so i went with the design with the firebox in the back of the pit with a small channel coming from the firebox going into the smoker.then have two stacks coming out of the top.i don't know what the design is called but i seen it a time or two and liked it.dose any body know the pro's and con's with this style and what it is called :?: if any of yall have can you give me some pointers on the design?what to do and what not to do.anyway, the pipe is 26inches wide and 38inches long and is 3/8in thick.the fire box is also 3/8's and is 30 inches wide and i didn't measure the height yet.im going to start back on it in the morning.here are some pics for yall to look at.check out my little smoker going in the back ground.it's chicken.

Howdy! I don't have any experience with the type of pit your building, but it sure looks like you off to a good start! I'm sure some others will pipe in here as the day progresses... Keep us up to date as you go about the build!

Here's a link (if I did it right) to a manufacturer that builds a similar fire box.

What you are desribing sounds like the Benjamin Franklin Fireplace, I saw a segment about it on the History channel last night. Smoke and heat go up then over then down then up a bigger chimney which causes a siphon effect. Supposibly 75% more efficient that a regular fire place. I look forward to seeing the completed pit (or in the mean time a rough sketch?)
