Exhaust help???

Postby jlabolt » Mon May 11, 2009 4:44 pm

I'm trying to near the end of my build, but I'm having trouble with the exhaust. Diameter? Height? I'm using a 250 gal tank and making a reverse flow. I'm thinking 4 or 5 in. will be adequate, probably 5, but I don't know. Thought about two 4s or one 6 also. I figure four feet high will be just right. Any ideas from you pit builders out there? Or you pit owners, whats on yours and how does it draw? If you need more dimensions to answer my questions, just ask. I can tell you pretty much anything about it.

I use a 250 gallon tank and we put two 4 inch stacks, but wish we would have made them bigger. Seems like the smoke gets backed up in the pit and the heat increases at the end of the tank because the exhaust is too small. Just my opinion.

Remember that you can always choke back the stack, but you can't make it bigger after the fact. I would think 2 5" stacks or one 8". Just guessing...

Not sure what the dimensions are on a 250 gallon tank, My pit is 74"X28" and has a 6" stack (reverse flow).

The dimensions are similar except mine is 30" dia. Does your 6" perform well?

Bolt I have a 30 x 66 inch pit , with a 30 inch warming box. if I am wide open and using both chambers I have 3 fours , but if I baffle off the warming box, and go to the reverse smoke, I have a single 6. I havent had any problem getting backed up so far. It seems to work fine for me. That is also with a full firebox churning.
