My new smoker !!

Postby Brandon Schick » Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:46 am

Well new to me anyway !! A friend of mine has been telling me I could have this smoker, (its been at his rent house) for about 2 years now. I never could get a chance to go check it out and he said it would take several people to load it. Well he was in town week before last so we went out and got it. It took 4 pretty big guys LOL !! This is really my first real smoker, not a cheesy electric type. There are a few things wrong with it but nothig that will keep it from doing its job !! It has heavy duty wheels but the back rear wheel is locked up and the front wheel wont swivel. The handle for the smoke box is pretty banged up and wont keep the door latched, the pit lid needs a handle, it needs a shelf, the tempature guage is shot, the air flow adjustment for the smoke box is toast, and the smoke box needs a shelf. We put a few coats of high temp paint on the pit but will be doing some more pianting this weekend. I will be searching here and on the web for ideas on how to spiff her up this weekend !! Feel free to give any ideas or input !!! :wav:

Here are some pics....

Looks like a good little smoker. A little spiffing up and she'll be good as new. 8)

You can get the intake vent from Brinkman or Weber. You can order online, I think they are around $6-$10 depending on size.

Some heavy expanded metal would work good for grates in the firebox and smoke chamber. PM Bluz and see if he has what you need.

Interesting setup. Instead of trying to repaint the firebox, I would sand it down and rub or spray oil on it. It will start to bake in and look like black paint, only better! ;) I'm sure you can turn out some good que out of it. The price was right, anyway! Keep us posted.

20" x 40" Party Gator Pit
Custom Mobile Stick Burner
Summerset TRL 32" Built-In Grill
Weber Q2200
48" Custom Firepit
Bertello Pizza Oven

I can't always please everybody. I'm not bacon.

Looking at the size of the firebox, it appears it would be a perfect candidate for a charcoal basket made from expanded metal. :D

Nice starter pit! Looks to be pretty solid. A little touch up here and there and you'll be in bizness!
