If'n it were me... I'd steal a few ideas from the big time pit builders. Klose and Gator come to mind. They've already done the leg work, so why try to re-invent the wheel...

Good advice James, thats exactly what I did. You saw it in person and It has been working very well

well kinda decided on a style, but i was wondering what works more the weight being high or back?

LSA,
I have mine both a about 16 " high and back a little. Once I got them set I just kept adding weight until it levelled out to the same pulling as picking up. I think some of that really depends and how back youve cut your doors, and how low you cut them. Mine are cut back pretty far to allow for the additional grates inside.
