How far does the smoke stacks extend into the smoker on your rig?

On mine, the stack is flush with the top of the pit. I would prefer that it extend a bit further into the cook chamber, but it works just fine as is.

I work for a sprinkler co. and we use grooved couplings,its a mechanical joint. I was thinking of adding one just inside the chamber that way I can easly add some length to the pipe if needed. I will not be using the rubber gasket.
I actualy plan to use 2 stacks beside each other of 3" or 4" pipe insted of one 6" pipe.
