Postby LSAtexan4x4 » Mon Mar 23, 2009 6:45 pm

me and a buddy just finished his pit and we have a lot of smoke coming from the doors they were cut with a torch and there is one inch flat bar welded onto the outside of the door. i saw on a green egg thing at the local, bar b que's galore, and it had some sort of felt stuff that sealed the lid to the body, any ideas or suggestions?

Also, if the gaps aren't too big, a lot of the cracks will seal themselves up over time with buildup. I'm cookin' on a Chargriller (pretty cheap rig) and it had a LOT of leaks when I first got it. 5 years later, it hardly leaks at all and I haven't done anything to seal it.

So when are we gonna see pics of yer pit? :)

Those ceramic gaskets are pricey to be sure. On Roma, I used regular old door sealing felt from the hardware store. Works great and is about 1/8 the cost. I applied it with white glue, but high temp silicon might work also.
