Chimney Damper
Gentlemen i am building my own smoker and was looking for some damper ideas for the chimney and for the opening from the fire box to the cooking chamber. Help

What are you building it out of and what are the dimensions etc.? Info will help with the advice given... Also some of the best info can be gleaned from looking at the folks who build'em for a living. Nothing wrong with imitating any idea...

Don't think you'd want to put a damper on the chimney. You'll want that thing wide open all the time and control your fire at the other end. Even operate my WSM with those principles. You'll want to be able to close the chimney to keep out rain and critters when not in use.
Now, ceramics are a horse of another color - you have adust them down elsewise you'd end up with too big of a fire.

Dingers smoker
I am just a rookie and i have decided to build a 20inch dia x 48 back yard offset smoker. I was wondering if there are some damper ideas for fire box opening also. i have the base built and the fire box built now i am just deciding on how to damper.
