I wanted to know how you protect the exterior of your firebox?? I touch mine up with BBQ high temp paint every so often. I heard of someone using some type of cooking oil. like seasoning cast iron but wanted to get some opinions from people on here. Hopefully this doesn't sound stupid

We use the top as a griddle all the time, just don't do the bacon over the driveway. Still thinking about adding some flat bar to the top of the box and somehow channel the grease to a catch can. As it is now, it just runs down the sides. Here are a couple more pics...
