Cover for Brick Smoker

Postby jlabolt » Mon Feb 02, 2009 8:45 pm

I have friend contemplating on building a brick smoker or backyard bbq if you will. He intends on it being able to smoke half of a hog, somewhere in the neighborhood of 3' X 5'. Anyone out here have an idea as to where we might find a lid for such a smoker, preferably something stainless. Anyone got any ideas?

Got any metal shops in your area? Doubt that there is much out there pre-fabed.

When the fab shop gives you the price for a rolled stainless lid with welded ends or a bent and broke peaked lid, just be sure you are sitting down. And you'll need to make some kind of hinges for the lid and the plates to attach the hinges will have to be set in the brick mortar for strength. :D

I'm certain I would have to be sitting and that might help. We spoke today about the costs. Found a couple pallets of brick for a decent price and changed the design a little. He's know going to brick in the chimney and put something like the doors on a cabinet smoker. Can't wait to see the finished project.

Try out the woodstove dealers. Might get away with some single-wall pipe and spark arrester. Single wall is fairly cheap and comes in various lenths. And, they are designed for smoke.
