I used to cook a fair bit on my WSM but I upgraded to ceramic cooking (Komodo Kamado) and haven't looked back since. Although they seem expensive they are great cookers (I believe the owner currently is selling some "older" stock so you might get one for around the 1300)?

I've heard great stories about BGE as well so if you don;t want to splash out that much. Otherwise you can't go wrong with a WSM (and your investment is a lot smaller).

Don't forget about those pellet gizmos either. Fill up the hopper with pellets and walk away  Least that's what I hear some folks are gravitating to.

Traeger makes a fairly reasonable priced pellet grill / smoker. From what I've seen the cooking capacity is about the same as the WSM, unless you get the upper end. Again, I'd go with the FEC. I've never owned one but I know several comp cookers that use them.

I agree with you guys, there are so many considerations in buying equipment. Get the one that suits you best in what and how you are going to use it. If you plan to cook for a dozen or more often then capacity must be looked into.

OR you can get several different kinds and styles to cover all bases.

It all centers around how much money you want to spend or can spend.

Best of luck in your selection... keep on q'ing!

I do just about all my qing on a stick burner. I bought a WSM a couple of months ago and that was the least amount of attention I have ever giving to a cook. It was two butts and basically all I did was get it to temp and leave it for the entire cook. It just sat there and purred like a kitten.
