I use almost only lump but from time to time I'll use a little oak (firewood pile) or Apple/Hickory (gifts from feeding folks who walk to pay it forward) for aromatics. But I ain't buying no carbon credits....they're hard to get lit and don't burn long either.

I have the wood deal made. I have 16 acres with lots of big mesquite trees on it. My Brother-in-law heats his house with wood, so when he brings his chain saw over here to get a load I usually ask him to cut some bbq wood for me too.

For all the chunks I need I get the BigJohns bags of logs at Albertsons, then chunk it up myself...lasts me a long time.

Here in the Pacific Northwest alder is plentiful and readily available. I also use maple and apple. Seldom buy wood... neighbors and friends usually bring some over or give me the bigger branches/rounds if I help them clear storm-downed trees.

Right now chunking over a cord of maple from a tree that was blown down.

a hui hou,
