New Build Coming
Hey all, my buddy and I are getting ready to build a new pit out of a 55" long pipe with a 41" diameter. My question is, warming box or no warming box. I plan on using this to cater with. Just trying to get some opinions. I was doing some research and Lone Star Grillz had some cool ideas for the warming box directly above the fire box. They put a plate in there that can be removed so you can cook directly in the warmer box if you would want to. Thanks.

Re: New Build Coming
I know nothing about Catering BBQ but I have Catered a few events with other Foods.
However, it seems to me that the "warming box" would sure be an asset to your Operation
Good Luck to you

I look forward to watching your progress Bockbock.
Are you building a reverse flow or traditional offset?

Thank you Sir!
I would place it over the firebox and rely on the radiant heat from the firebox to heat it.
You could add a slide damper to open the top of the firebox to it for grilling but personally I would utilize it strictly as a warmer not for cooking.

Re: New Build Coming
my question is, are you going to stuff insulation around the chamber of leave it empty? I have seen both, but do see better performance from the insulated chambers, the ones I have seen insulated had 1000 degree pads used in them.

Re: New Build Coming
No insulation just the air gap. Thinking about adding a custom warming box on top of the fire box. It should get hot enough to make some of my sauces as I am preparing the meat.

Re: New Build Coming
Trying to add more pics, but they are too big. How can I make them smaller? Help. Thanks

Re: New Build Coming
With your iPhone, when you select which photo you want to send, down at the bottom it says “show selected”, tap on that. Once you tap on it it will tell you what the actual size of the photo is, and it will give you an option to use a large, medium, or small. If you use the large size it will reduce it enough to be able to send. Once you select the size, tap on “Add” anthem you can send it.

Re: New Build Coming
Thank you GRailsback! Here is the pit at its current status. It is sitting on my buddies trailer. We will be building one for me to haul it down to Tampa. Doors & firebox are cut, just waiting on the hinges.
