Re: Hinges Designs
That's the direction I'm leaning. The sandwiching will stop the wobble.
edit: I just googled 'smoker door hinges' - should have done that a long time ago. D'OH!

This type of hinge is very popular.
Things to remember:
When using this type with external door seals the hinge pivot point needs to be behind the flange or the door will pinch.
The higher the arch the higher your door will raise.

My guess is there is a rod inside the tube. The tube is strictly aesthetics and the rod is plug welded to the outer hinge piece.
The ax points are door stops.

I thought that was a pump jack. Whatever it is, it's a nice touch. Those two guys are pretty slick.

Never looked at it from that prospective but it could very well be.
I do like patina look though kinda edging on the steam punk look.

That's some critically important info, right there. Thanks, Kevin.

I like that look, too. I wonder if they put a high temp clear coat on.k.a.m. wrote:hogaboomer wrote:I thought that was a pump jack. Whatever it is, it's a nice touch. Those two guys are pretty slick.

Re: Hinges Designs
Put a bar across your door hinge to act as a door stop.
Here is a pic of Little Mama's the tab is my door stop.

Re: Hinges Designs
I ended up tacking small plates in between the sandwiching chamber plates for the door plate to rest on. Dang hinges are way time consuming for such a small object. I guess they're pretty important to have work right, though.
I'm glad to be finished with them so I can move on to something else. Firebox pipe to end cap is going to be interesting.
