Door Placement on Offset

Postby hogaboomer » Wed Apr 22, 2020 3:59 pm

What's the general consensus on how high up the door goes? The first one I did I made it straight up 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock on the side. That was a double door on 24 inch pipe. Seems to work pretty nice.
I started a new one yesterday on 30 inch, a 250 gallon propane tank. I want to do this one single door, so I guess I'm gonna have to put a counterweight on it.
Any reason not to do this one the same, 12 and 3? I got all the attachments cut off and plugged up today, gonna need to cut a door next.

If you allow the doors to break over past 12:00 you will need a ladder to reach the handles. If you have the counter weights take all the load of the door instead of just 1/3 then they can rest on the chamber holding your door open above your head.
On a 30" chamber I drop down about 8" from 12:00 and my bottom cuts are always 1" below 3:00. I use 1" material for my grates so the top of the grate ends back at 3:00.

Excellent!!! I hadn't thought of the height aspect. Thanks, Kevin!

You are very welcome Sir.
My best recollection is if you drop down 8" and go 1" below 3:00 the door length should be about 15.5" long top to bottom with a strap tape. But I will have to look back through old notes.
