I'm going to build this grill
I don't have access to this grill and this is the only picture. I'm looking for advice on how thick of steel to use. I'm planning on using fire brick on the bottom of the firebox/santa maria portion of the grill. Do I need to use 1/4" for the bottom? Can I get buy with 10 gauge for the sides of the fire box. 12 gauge for the sides of the smoker box? 14 gauge for the lid????

Looks like there is an angle iron or tube framework
Based on that, 3/16” or 1:4” angle iron for frame2”x2”.
Firebox 3/16-1/4”
Lids etc 11ga
Buy right once, cry once.
What has you stuck on this exact build?
Before cutting anything beyond a fart, draw up what you want on paper, maybe make a scaled down 3d mock up from cardboard
Look at dimensions of the material and work around those. Less waste and less cuts

Re: Advice on steel to use on grill/smoker i'm building
I was just not sure how how thick. I ended up going with
2x2x.095 box tube for the frame, give it a beefier look.
I ordered 1/4" for the bottom of the grill, I'm going to use fire brick, 10 gauge for the sides of the grill and the smoke box and 12 gauge for the lid.
It's going to take some time for them to cut it all up so I can weld it, in fact, they might have had to close today for the duration of the panic. So, there's time to make changes. I do have it all drawn up - more or less.

.095 is somewhere around 14ga which is fairly thin. I’d be wanting to be fairly uniform across the whole project and use 11ga which is around 1/8”. Welding thick to thin can be difficult. What kind of welder are you using and what is your skill level?

Ya but ... the .095 makes the base a lot light and is more than strong enough and the base and the rest of the grill are pretty separate. I just need to tack the grill and smoker down to the base.

Re: Advice on steel to use on grill/smoker i'm building
I used 3/16 on mine Santa Maria grill all around then again I had the side bent to 90* to aid in the strength. I don’t use a fire brick just a platform about 4 inches above the floor of it. I’ve never had an issue with mine either. I also wouldn’t use anything less than 1/8” for the rest. Mainly personal preference I guess but with each section being thinner, it causes a possibility of a weak link in the structure.
