My question is pros and cons of using a propane log starter
Anyone got an opinion ?

Love mine.... on all three offset pits I've owned. Wouldn't do without.

The weed burner guys will be along shortly but I like the convenience of something ready to go without the hassle of totin' cylinders and holding the darn thing.

Granted, there are some dangers involved if you're not one to pay attention but common sense will eliminate 99% of them.

I have built in starters on mine, can’t beat the convenience. My fire box has 2 of them, I am up and running in no time.

They are great if you respect their deadliness. I have read horror stories about cookers blowing up from the misuse of fire starters. I pipe my trailers to the rear and have a quick connect on the back. I built a small log lighter that slips into the intake and once the fire is going I remove it.
Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

There certainly are some risk if you have your head in the wrong place. But that is the case with most anything. I actually use both, the fire box has them permanently mounted, one on each side, but the valves for both are on the same side so I can light both and not have to move. And my trailer has a Aux gas port with a quick connect as well that I use a weed burner to start the lump and wood in my steak/fajita cooker. There is no starter fluid anywhere near my pit.

I use a weed burner…mainly to warm my cabinet. If I was using an offset I’d want both. Built in to actually light the logs and a weed burner to blast the grates.
