Hi all!
Hope everyone is having a great Friday.
I am looking at a custom built smoker made from a local guy that just started and wanted some opinions on it.
He is asking $950.
Other than the obvious cheap grates in the cooking chamber and firebox, would you have any other concerns?
This will be my first stick burner!
Thanks!

Re: Custom reverse flow advice
You asked for it so...wheels are too small, exhaust pipe is too small diameter and placed too high (it should be at cook grate level) and to me anyway, the smaller firebox door opening is too small.
The cook grate material is ok but the firebox grate won't last too long.

Thanks Chasdev!
I had my doubts on the pipe and door as well. Wheels were not on my radar.
I ended up telling him I would pass because I just didn’t have the best feeling about the build. Not even a drain pipe...
still, power to him for building his own.
I decided on the OC Brazos that they sell at the buc-ees by me and will grab it Sunday morning. They upgraded the older design and added a heat baffle and counterweight.

What size firebox?
What size cooking chamber?
What diameter and length is the exhaust?
The fire grate will work better if it was turned 90° and resting on the bars. As it is it will bow down because of the rod tying it together is a catwalk grates weak link. Also a piece of #9 expanded placed on to the grate will help keep your small embers from falling through.
